What this part is and where it is used
A threaded rod and a stud are both straight, headless lengths of bar with an external thread — the difference is where the thread sits. A fully threaded rod is threaded end to end and is usually cut to length, while a stud carries threads on both ends (double-end) or one end (tap-end) with a plain shank between. Threaded rods and studs are machined to your drawing, which defines the diameter, thread, overall length and material.
Buyers order these when a headed bolt does not suit: a stud that stays in place while a nut runs onto the exposed end, a rod that passes through a clamp or flange, or a length no catalog covers. A stud and nuts form the joint — the stud holds position and the nut applies the clamp — and we can supply matched custom nuts and custom washers.
Types of threaded rods and studs we manufacture
We cut the common forms to print:
- Fully threaded rods — threaded end to end and cut to your length.
- Double-end studs — thread on both ends with a plain shank between.
- Tap-end studs — thread on one end to seat in a tapped hole, the other end takes a nut.
- Stud bolts and specialty lengths with custom thread runs and shoulders.
A stainless stud bolt, a bolt and stud set, or a rod with a left-hand thread on one end is one drawing away. We machine each to the exact length and thread run your print calls for, rather than trimming a stock bar and hoping the thread lands right.
Materials, threads and finishes
Common materials are aluminium (6061, 7075), stainless steel (303, 304, 316L), carbon and alloy steel (1045, 1215, 4140), brass and copper, and titanium. Stainless stud bolts suit corrosion-facing flanges and clamps; see our stainless steel parts, aluminium parts, steel parts, brass and copper parts and titanium parts pages.
Threads are cut to metric or inch references, or to DIN and ANSI/ASTM standards — our thread standards page lists the options. We cut coarse and fine pitches and left-hand threads, and can put a different thread on each end of a stud. Finishing runs through our vetted partner network under one quality process: zinc plating, black oxide and passivation, among others.
Industries and applications
Studs and bolts appear in oil and gas, hydraulic and pneumatic, automotive, marine and agriculture assemblies. Double-end studs and fully threaded rods serve pipe flanges, clamps and structural ties, while tap-end studs suit engine and pump mounting.
Why order this part from our factory
We machine threaded rods and studs in our own factory in Qidong City, Jiangsu Province. General work is held to ISO 2768-m unless stated on the drawing, with precision features to ±0.01 mm. Orders start from 50 pieces; samples take 5–10 days and production 25–35 days. Monthly capacity runs over 100,000 parts, scheduled flexibly per order. Send a drawing and we return DFM feedback with a quote within 24 hours, then ship with a material certificate (MTR) and pre-shipment photos. WhatsApp us at +86 177 2151 9382 or use the quote form.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order quantity for threaded rods and studs?
We start from 50 pieces per style, material and length. This keeps a first run or cut-to-length batch practical before you order production quantities.
What are your lead times?
Sample studs and rods take 5–10 days and production runs take 25–35 days after drawing approval. We return DFM feedback with your quote within 24 hours.
What tolerances can you hold on a stud or rod?
General work is machined to ISO 2768-m unless your drawing states otherwise, and precision features such as a shoulder or pilot diameter are held to ±0.01 mm.
Which materials do you machine studs from?
Aluminium (6061, 7075), stainless steel (303, 304, 316L), carbon and alloy steel (1045, 1215, 4140), brass and copper, and titanium. Stainless stud bolts are common for corrosion-facing flanges and clamps.
Can you cut rods to a specific length?
Yes. Fully threaded rods and studs are machined to your drawing's exact length and thread run — we do not ask you to accept stock lengths.
What is the difference between a stud and a threaded rod?
A fully threaded rod is threaded end to end, while a stud carries threads on both ends or one end with a plain shank between. We machine both to print.
Do you supply the matching nuts and washers?
Yes. We machine [custom nuts](/custom-nuts/) and [custom washers](/custom-washers/) to match your stud thread, so the whole stud and nuts assembly fits one spec.
Do you provide material certificates?
Every batch ships with a material certificate (MTR) for the raw material and pre-shipment photos of the finished parts before dispatch.
How do I get a quote for threaded rods and studs?
Upload your drawing (STEP, IGES, DWG, DXF or PDF) through the [quote form](/request-a-quote/) or send it on WhatsApp at +86 177 2151 9382. We reply with DFM feedback and a price within 24 hours.
