What automotive buyers need from a parts supplier
Automotive machined parts are purchased for repeatability, fit and predictable delivery. A useful RFQ therefore needs more than a part name: send the drawing revision, material grade, quantity, required finish, thread standard and delivery target. Our review checks those items together because a change in material or surface treatment can affect both machining time and the final dimensions.
We work from customer drawings for prototypes, pilot batches and production parts. Send a STEP, IGES, DWG, DXF or dimensioned PDF and we return DFM feedback with a quote within 24 hours. The DFM review highlights features that may add cost, such as deep holes, thin walls, difficult internal corners, unusually tight tolerances or a finish that changes a mating surface.
Automotive parts we machine
Common automotive machined parts include shafts, bushings, sleeves, spacers, brackets, fittings, adapters, flanges, housings and custom fasteners. Round parts with a bore, outside diameter and concentric faces are normally routed through CNC turning. Prismatic parts with pockets, hole patterns and locating faces are routed through CNC milling. Turning-and-milling composite work can keep related features in one setup.
Fasteners are specified by their head form, thread, length, material and finish. For a custom bolt, screw, nut or stud, the drawing should show the thread standard, thread length, under-head geometry and any required chamfer or relief. We can review metric, inch and other thread requirements against the drawing, then confirm the practical process and lead time before production.
Materials and surface finishes
Material choice depends on load, corrosion exposure, weight, wear and the final assembly. Available families include aluminium 2024, 5052, 6061 and 7075; stainless steel 303, 304, 316, 316L and 17-4PH; carbon and alloy steel such as 1045, 1215 and 4140; brass, copper, bronze and titanium; and engineering plastics. The material grade should be named on the drawing rather than left to a general “steel” or “aluminium” note, and our materials page lists what each grade is normally chosen for.
Surface options include anodizing, black oxide, zinc plating, nickel plating, chrome plating, passivation, polishing, brushing and heat treatment. Finishing is managed through a vetted partner network under one quality process. Tell us which faces must remain uncoated, which threads need protection and whether a roughness or appearance requirement applies. That information prevents a finish from interfering with a fit or assembly.
Tolerance, quantity and production planning
General dimensions follow ISO 2768-m unless your drawing states a different general tolerance. Precision features can be held to +/-0.01 mm when the drawing and process support it. We recommend applying tight tolerances only to the features that control function, such as bearing seats, bores, locating faces and thread-related geometry. This keeps the quote aligned with the actual assembly requirement.
Production starts from 50 pieces per style and material. Prototype and sample quantities are reviewed from the drawing, and the same machining floor can support a pilot batch before a larger repeat order. Samples typically ship in 5-10 days and production in 25-35 days after drawing approval. The final schedule is confirmed from the material, quantity, finish and checking requirements.
Every order ships with a material certificate (MTR) and pre-shipment photos of the finished parts. The packing list and carton markings are prepared before dispatch. To begin, send the part number, revision, quantity, material, finish and delivery target through the request a quote form. See custom fasteners, CNC turning and CNC milling for related manufacturing routes.
Automotive work is volume work, and the route follows quantity: turned spacers and threaded parts below about 10,000 pieces, cold-headed fasteners above it. The turning side is covered under CNC turning, the formed side under cold heading, and the most commonly quoted parts under custom bolts.
