Custom (OEM)

Custom parts, made from your drawing

This is the route for a part that does not exist yet: your drawing, our process, from 100 pieces per part number. If you are looking for 1–500 pieces instead, the small batch routeis faster and has no tooling line.

How an OEM job runs

  1. 1 · Drawing review

You send the drawing or 3D file. Within 24 hours you get a quote and a DFM note — the features that will cost more, and the ones that can be changed to cost less.

  2. 2 · Quote

Price breaks at 100 / 500 / 1,000 / 5,000 pieces. Material, machining, finish and inspection are separate lines, so you can see what each choice costs.

  3. 3 · Sample

One to five pieces, 7–10 days after drawing approval. The sample is the part, not a lookalike: same material, same process, same finish.

  4. 4 · Approval

You measure the sample against the drawing. Anything out of tolerance is re-cut before production starts, not after.

  5. 5 · Production

25–35 days after sample approval, depending on material and finish.

  6. 6 · Documents and shipping

Mill certificate (MTR) for the heat number used, pre-shipment photographs of the actual parts, then shipment on the terms agreed in the quote.

What to send

2D drawing (PDF)Required for anything with a tolerance. Dimensions, datums and the finish callout all live here.
3D model (STEP / IGES)Strongly preferred. A model removes ambiguity about curved surfaces and lets us program directly.
Material and finishNamed on the drawing, or stated in the enquiry. If it is open, we will propose and price two options.
Quantity per yearThe number that decides the process. 200 pieces a year and 200,000 a year are different parts.
Any assembly or mating partIf this part fits another part, send both. Half of all fit problems are a stack-up that was never added up.

What moves the price

Number of setupsA part machined from one face is one setup; three faces is three. Each setup re-establishes position and adds handling.
Tolerance density±0.01 mm on ten dimensions turns a machining job into an inspection job, and inspection is priced by the hour.
MaterialOften the smallest of the three. Bar stock availability matters more than the price per kilo.
FinishA separate line, always. Anodizing, powder coating and plating are quoted by area and by batch.
VolumePrice falls fastest between 100 and 1,000 pieces, then flattens. Tooling, where needed, is amortised across the run.

Where to start

If you already know the part family, start at the block page — it carries the size range, materials and tolerance class before you send anything.
